Emmaus Academy exists to walk with families along the path of classical Christian education, passionately pursuing truth, goodness, and beauty on the journey from wonder to Wisdom.
It is our great privilege to partner with families as we walk this path of a “living education” from wonder to Wisdom. It is our desire that learning here comes “alive” as students interact with the great minds of the ages – the authors, the poets, the artists, the scientists, the explorers; as the world becomes their classroom through the study of God’s creation; as they grow in habit formation and enjoy the fruits of their efforts; and as learn to express themselves and assimilate ideas through the written and spoken word.
At Emmaus Academy, we are striving to provide an education that is, in Charlotte Mason’s words, “an atmosphere, a discipline, and a life”: an atmosphere where students are honored as “persons” – image bearers of the God of all creation, where they are given room to breathe and time to think; a discipline to cultivate those habits, especially habits of a virtuous character, that will serve them well as they learn to serve others, following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ; a life in which pursuing a love for knowledge and wisdom is a delightful task they embark upon with joy.
“Our aim in Education is to give a Full Life … We begin to see what we want. Children make large demands upon us. We owe it to them to initiate an immense number of interests. ‘Thou hast set my feet in a large room’ should be the glad cry of every intelligent soul. Life should be all living, and not merely a tedious passing of time; not all doing or all feeling or all thinking – the strain would be too great – but, all living; that is to say, we should be in touch wherever we go, whatever we hear, whatever we see, with some manner of vital interest … The question is not, – how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education – but how much does he care?”
As we step onto this path, let us set our eyes on the destination – a Full Life lived for the Glory of God. But let us also remember that there is joy in the journey, especially one that is traveled with those who desire God’s best for us.
